Happy International Women's Day!
We’ve been curating, creating & baking for over 115 years. It all started with two sisters in the front room of a terraced house in Yorkshire in the 1900s. When Jennie and Kathrine Adams’ father died, leaving them with no income, they started baking and selling their cakes to make ends meet. Their little cottage industry did so well, they soon outgrew their kitchen, and they moved to their own bakery, bringing sister Maria into the family business. They soon had a reputation for making the best breads, pies, cakes, biscuits, puddings and preserves in Hull and joined forces with the Arnett family, who owned a chain of bakeries. Fast-forward to 2025, we still pride ourselves on our quality and attention to detail and recognise the women that make this possible at every step of the journey, from the inspiration of our latest products, to the creation of these luxurious teatime treats.
We'd like to introduce you to some of the incredible women who work at Cartwright & Butler today. From leadership to behind-the-scenes work, these women play a pivotal role in shaping our success. They bring unique perspectives, creativity, and dedication to everything they do. Whether they’re leading teams, managing projects, or hand illustrating our next beautiful packaging design, contributing to our culture, their hard work and passion does not go unnoticed.

Karolina, our head of NPD is pivotal to the delicious treats that go from concept to shelf. She is one of the longest serving members of the Cartwright & Butler team, having spent 9 years creating and curating the fantastic and the flavoursome. Working with her NPD team (Laura Erdman and Viktorija Troskova), our head creative designer, sales lead and our Managing Director, she is responsible for delivering the sweet and savoury treats that are classic Cartwright & Butler.
Karolina Glowacka - “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made” – Karolina
Viktorija Troskova - “I am incredibly proud to have been part of Cartwright & Butler for over 4 years, starting as a Quality Control Technician and now serving as Technical Manager. The company has fostered a culture where both innovation and quality are at the core of everything we do, making it a truly rewarding experience to contribute to such a dynamic and forward-thinking team. In my current role, I’ve had the privilege of ensuring that every technical decision upholds the highest standards of product safety and excellence, while driving our business forward. I am especially fortunate to work alongside an inspiring group of talented women, whose creativity, professionalism, and determination continue to motivate me every day. Together, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation and excellence in all that we do.”
Sabina Qureshi - “I joined Cartwright and Butler in May 2024, working as an account manager for the National accounts. What struck me about this business is that it's family-owned, with quality at the heart of everything they do - whether that be improving the quality of their products or investing in the quality of their staff and training. There's very much a culture of coming to work to do a good job, the people care about working hard, but we are also encouraged to have that real work-life balance with no expectations outside of working hours. This is exactly what I needed with 2 small children at home!
At work I am surrounded by some great women who are real assets to the team, and it's great to see so many women in our Senior Leadership Team. I look forward to completing my first full year at Cartwright & Butler and seeing what the future holds!”

Paulina Rutowicz - Proudly presenting Paulina and her inspiring growth within our organisation.
